CHARITY SEWING EVENT

“I am so excited to announce that Sewing Holiday will once again be hosting our charity sewing event. This event is open free to the public and every Sewing Holiday guest will be able to participate in this interactive charity sew during the event. I believe sewing is a skill that is so important to share and a simple act of kindness can leave a lasting impression on someone. In the past Sewing Holiday guests created over 400 shirts that were given to Skirting the Issues charity created by Simple Simon and Company. This year we will be continuing Sewing For Super Heros due to the popularity and need at the Children’s Miracle Network. Please complete your kit and return to The Sewing Factory.

WHAT IS SEWING FOR SUPER HEROS ™?

Sewing for Super Heros was developed by Designer Joi after a request from the Children’s Miracle Network to make super hero capes for kids in the hospital. We have made capes for the physicians to wear while treating the children and some local school sewing programs have also participated in making capes. The pattern is simple and anyone can make one.

HOW DO  I PARTICIPATE?

Every participant at Sewing Holiday will receive a FREE kit with everything needed to complete one project for charity. Don’t worry if you are too busy during Sewing Holiday to create your project.  Take the kit home after Sewing Holiday, complete your project, mail it back in, and we will give a giant box to our selected charity. Last year Sewing Holiday guests created over 400 gifts for charity.  All skill levels from youth to adult, beginner to advanced are encouraged to participate.

There will not be an open sew to the public this year, but if you want to participate and need a kit email joi@sewingholiday.com and we will have a kit for you to pick up and take home to sew.

No need to bring anything we have everything here. Don’t sew?? Not a problem you can cut fabric, measure patterns, iron or hang completed projects as a way to volunteer.

WHO IS THE CHARITY RECIPIENT?

This year’s recipient of the Sewing Holiday Charity Sew  is Children’s Miracle Network via Unity Point Health-St. Luke’s Sioux City.

UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s is proud to be one of Children’s Miracle Network 170 hospitals in North America. Our mission is simple: we save kids’ lives. Through the generosity of our donors, St. Luke’s Children’s Miracle Network is able to fund life-saving equipment, programs and services, as well as toys, books and crayons for hospitalized children and their families.

St. Luke’s Children’s Miracle Network is impacting record numbers of babies, kids and families. In 2014, our funds touched a record number of 2,136 births at St. Luke’s, a record number of 21,000 pediatric visits to our UnityPoint Health system in Siouxland, including nearly 400 sick and premature babies in St. Luke’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In 2016, we have committed to fund more than $170,000 in 2016 for life-saving equipment, community programs, and family  assistance for Miracle Kids and their families. These funds impact many departments including our St. Luke’s Pediatric Unity, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Infusion, Respiratory Care, Surgery, Spiritual Care, and UnityPoint Health and Home.

Every dollar raised in Siouxland for Children’s Miracle Network stays in Siouxland and impacts your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and possibly, even you. One of the more frequent phrases we hear is: “We never expected to need the services of Children’s Miracle Network.” Families never anticipate an emergency or a life-altering diagnosis.

Your time & generosity in creating items for the Charity Sew will help Siouxland kids in their most critical hours. Thank you for being a Miracle Maker!
